Super ‘Star Bowling’ in Ozanköy, North Cyprus

We had read about the new Star Bowling 10-Pin bowling alley which had recently opened in Ozanköy just outside Kyrenia, and as it was a family member’s birthday recently, we decided to make it a night out as none of us had been bowling for years – that didn’t bode well!
The venue is easy to find, just follow the coast road east from Kyrenia, look for the Courtyard restaurant on your right hand side and just past this you will see a sign for Star Bowling, just by the Alladins Cave shop. From here its only 30 metres or so up the road on the left. Parking is very easy with a large car park, which can apparently hold 200 cars.
The reception will provide you with those wonderful bowling shoes we all love to hate and you can chose how many games to play. You pay up front and bowling costs 7TL per person per game.
The venue has all the mod cons of the bowling world, although the flourescent lighting left some of us feeling like we were in a sci-fi movie and a bit ‘glow in the dark’ until we had gotten used to it! Sadly our camera didn’t particularly like the lighting either!
There are nine bowling lanes all with tv screens and automatic scoring (remember the days when we used to do it ourselves?!) and graphics to show you how many you hit or didn’t hit! If you get one of those precious (and for us elusive) strikes, when they all magically fall over, then a lady comes on the screen and does a little dance for you! How do we know this – we watched someone elses screen!
There is plenty to keep both adults and kids occupied besides the bowling lanes as well, with a selection of arcade games, air hockey and pool tables. We spent quite some time screeching over a few games of table football!
The upper floor of Star Bowling has lounge style booths, with a very colourful neon bar serving a range of non-alcholic and alcholic beverages including fancy cocktails. You can order food and drinks to be served at your bowling lane table or in their restaurant with a menu featuring snack foods, burgers and salads. Soft drinks start at 3TL and beers at 5TL, and they have an Illy coffee menu with a range of speciality coffees and other hot drinks.
The other possible attraction of Star Bowling is that they run a pick up and drop off service from Kyrenia town centre should you have a large party of people to transport. We are not entirely sure if there are any designated points where they will pick people up from, but the phone number for the service is +90 (0)533 837 8077.
So, we would say give it a go as the number of activities in North Cyprus is increasing at a steady pace, and we thoroughly enjoyed our evening there, even if we can’t claim to have been any good at bowling!
