KIBHAS Airport Shuttle Service, North Cyprus

Launched in late February 2009 the Cyprus Airport Services run KIBHAS airport shuttle service is now in full operation serving customers with transfers to Ercan Airport in North Cyprus. It has been quite a while coming but now has a fleet of twelve buses and coaches departing from all the major towns and ports.
Operating seven days a week the fares are really well priced costing only 7TL (approx. £2.70) from Lefkoşa, 10TL (approx. £3.85) from Kyrenia, Famagusta and Güzelyurt and 12TL (approx. £4.60) from Lefke, making it a really cost effective option for many. You don’t have to book either, just arrive at the departure point and board the bus.
Buses run at times coinciding with flight departures and arrivals so they operate nearly 24 hours from 4am until 12 midnight, but when additional flights are laid on for public holidays and high season they will undoubtedly put on more services to meet demand.
If you are using the service from Ercan on your arrival to North Cyprus obviously the only issue may be that it doesn’t take you right to your door, but if you ask nicely the bus driver will usually be more than happy to make an additional stop somewhere along the way which is closer to your destination if you don’t want to alight at any of the designated stops!
How popular the service is with tourist’s remains to be seen as this is its first season in operation. In general free transfers are offered by tour operators and hotels to those who arrive on a complete package holiday, so it may be the independent travellers who will benefit more from this form of airport transfer transport in the long run.
However, this service will be definitely be popular with students travelling back to Turkey for the holidays as it’s much cheaper than a taxi and less time consuming having to wait for a dolmuş, so expect the services to be quite busy at university holiday times! Possibly local people will also use this service for just travelling to and from town too, with stop off points allowing people to alight along the journey.
