Friends of Karpaz, North Cyprus

Started in 2004 the North Cyprus Friends of Karpaz Association is comprised of local residents and other interested parties who wish to protect the much coveted Karpaz region in North Cyprus. For many years now the area has been home to the rural way of Cypriot life and is one of the most ecologically diverse areas of the island of Cyprus. EMYR 2009 Comes To North Cyprus

Well it was all but a brief visit, but the arrival of the yachting fraternity to North Cyprus was a lovely spectacle to watch. The 2009 Eastern Mediterranean Yacht Rally descended on North Cyprus on Saturday 23rd May with boats arriving all morning into the New Harbour’s Delta Marina.  Due to some issues with local boat owners not wishing to vacate the old harbour all the arriving yachts were moored at the new harbour, but it didn’t detract from the event, rather it served to drive home the popularity of the rally with being able to see all the boats in one place. Korineum Golf & Country Club, Esentepe, North Cyprus

Having been open for a couple of years now, there is still always time to be impressed by the Korineum Golf & Country Club in Esentepe, located to the east of Kyrenia. Its location is pretty spectacular too, tucked away in the foothills of the Beşparmak mountain range, with a vast golf course at 6,232 metres. Opening with a huge fanfare in early 2007 it can be safely said to be the most popular place to go for those who like a leisurely but complex round of golf! Read more

English School of Kyrenia, North Cyprus

One school making inroads into the quality and level of education in North Cyprus is the English School of Kyrenia. Formally opened in September 2008, its ethos is one of academic and personal growth, establishment of social skills combined with an excellent standard of education. If you have relocated to North Cyprus and are thinking about placing your little cherubs into the education system here, then this particular school may just appeal. Read more

As the month of May is usually the time of year such things appear from their hibernation slumber, we thought we would give you a run down of the various species of snake in North Cyprus!  Those of us who live here are fairly familiar with the varieties that we may all come across and, as most of them are pretty harmless, we would advise you not to panic should you come upon one!  Most of us treat snakes with a kind of scared disgust, imagining them to be slippery reptiles that will leap out of bushes and bite us, when in all honesty all they want is to be left alone to live quiet lives! Mani Peni’s Pizzeria, Kyrenia, North Cyprus

Having now eaten at this super little restaurant umpteen times over the last year or so, we thought it was high time a review was written!  Mani Peni’s is a small eatery located to the east of Kyrenia town centre, on the new harbour roundabout. Zeytinlik, North Cyprus

Zeytinlik, (zeytin meaning olive), is located on the western low-lying outskirts of Kyrenia. As you may guess by its name, Zeytinlik was the centre of olive oil production in the past, and it still retains some of its original character with people having kept the trees in their gardens and some of the old olive groves still remaining too.
