A new venture has opened up recently, and although not being that knowledgeable on the pool and snooker scene in North Cyprus, we believe it’s the only one around presently. It’s worth noting that there are other establishments which have the facilities for pool and snooker and these mainly tend to be local bars and pubs, but we like this place as its completely dedicated to the sport. As we pass through the very short spring and on into summer (we hope, after all the rain this year!), it’s a time of year which is full of community activity as well as the burst of colour from our gardens. One event which was hugely successful last year was the first North Cyprus Ozanköy Flower Show, held and organised by the Five Fingers Restaurant in Ozanköy and which is owned and run by Alex and Libby Main. This year the name has been changed slightly to incorporate another important part of North Cyprus’s heritage and is now called the Ozanköy Flower Show and Carob Festival. Read more

Recently when thinking about going for a day out, and then finding that it was the afternoon before we actually committed to doing something, a friend suggested we take a trip to the Lambousa tombs and the surrounding areas, which are still very much intact and an interesting site to spend some time exploring. Kyrenia, or Girne – Girne being the Turkish name for the town, although most people still call it Kyrenia – is probably the most popular town in North Cyprus, and it’s located in the middle of the north coast. Kyrenia is where all visitors to the island are naturally drawn due to the famous pretty horseshoe shaped harbour, along which you’ll find many of the bars and restaurants in North Cyprus, and which is dominated by an immense Byzantine castle. If you are thinking of taking the plunge, getting hitched, tying the knot or making it ‘official’ so to speak, then there are places of romance all over the world where you can do so, but a great option and perhaps possibly the only option, being the birthplace of Aphrodite, would be a wedding in North Cyprus! Add to that the sunshine, the stunningly scenic and panoramic backdrops and you can’t go far wrong! Read more

The village of Bellapais, (also known as Bellapaix or Beylerberi), sits majestically on the slopes of the Kyrenia mountain range and can be reached from the eastern side of Kyrenia by turning right at the traffic lights and following signs for Doğanköy and Beylerbeyi. It is about a 15 minute drive from Kyrenia. You can’t really miss the village actually, given the sight of the glorious Bellapais Abbey sitting in the centre of it! Read more

Come the month of May 2009 we are again due to see the wonderful plethora of yachts entering Kyrenia’s old harbour, and if it’s a fine day, which it should be at this time of year, you can sit and watch them arrive over the horizon from the south coast of Turkey, whilst sipping a few drinks at one of the harbour cafes! Package Holidays, North Cyprus – General Overview

Package holidays are a relatively new but developing business in North Cyprus. With this side of the island mainly a destination for the independent traveller until recently, holiday companies are now offering attractive packages to suit most budgets and requirements.
Due to the embargoes and restrictions placed upon North Cyprus you probably won’t find much in the way of glossy marketing material in your local travel agent, but there are plenty of dedicated companies offering package deals over the internet, so this is probably the best place to start your research.
